Kristy Villa, co-host of women’s premiere morning show ‘The Balancing Act’ on Lifetime was recently notified that a special she hosted on peanut allergies caught the attention of FAAN- The Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network.  The special not only had them taking notice, it also earned Kristy a FAAN Media Award.

The Gala to honor Kristy Villa & ‘The Balancing Act’ is being held on February 10th 2011 in Los Angeles.  Other honorees that will be joining O2 Media at the Award Ceremony are Walt Disney World & Campbell’s.   Kristy Says “The honor was all mine.  My gratitude goes out to Mr. Hom who was brave enough to share his story with America, and FAAN for the amazing work they do every day in educating families about these allergies”.

In the segment, Kristy talks to Brian Hom who lost his son because he was allergic to peanuts. He shares his family’s heartbreaking story and offers advice to other parents in ways to keep their children safe.

Kristy also welcomes to the show, Maria Acebal, Vice President of FAAN.  Maria discusses peanut and other food allergies in children as well as stresses the importance of parents being educated and prepared.  With the help of 7 year old Leandro de Armas, FAAN’s Child Ambassador, Maria demonstrates the proper way to use to use an epinephrine-auto-injector in case an emergency occurs.  Food allergies account for 300,000 ambulatory care visits a year among children in the U.S.

Its membership now stands at approximately 25,000 worldwide and includes families, dietitians, nurses, physicians, school staff, and representatives from government agencies and the food and pharmaceutical industries.
