Signups Begin Feb. 25 for Miller Y's Junior Lakers Basketball League

Feb. 9, 2011 - PRLog -- NEWBURY PARK, CALIF.--Sign-ups for the Miller Family YMCA Junior Lakers Basketball League will begin Friday, February 25 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. No skills assessment will take place. The league, played at the Miller Y in Newbury Park, will run from May 7 through June 25 with eight Saturday games and one practice per week.

   The outdoor basketball league will offer divisions for preschool through high school. The league will be divided by grades: preschool league, five year olds/kindergarten, first and second grades, third and fourth grades, fifth and sixth grades, seventh and eighth grades and high school. Older-age players can bring their own teams to play in the league.

   "The focus of the league is to teach younger players the rules of the game and proper techniques using smaller size balls and lower rim heights," says Veronica Rodarte, Miller Y program director. "Older players get to refine their skills and play with friends."

   Each player receives a jersey, award and practice and game play time. The fee is $60 per player for the preschool division and $110 for all other divisions.
