About the Author –Thomas Wm. Hamilton is a retired astronomer who taught college for 32 years and was involved in determining radar requirements and fuel usage for the Apollo Program. He has written two books in the computer field, was an editor of a planetarium newsletter and is currently a columnist for an international journal for planetarium professionals. In 2010 Mr. Hamilton was named a Fellow of the International Planetarium Society at the biennial convention in Alexandria, Egypt, an honorable position awarded last year to only five other people, including just one other American. Recently, the International Astronomical Union recognized Mr. Hamilton’s contributions to the field of astronomy by naming asteroid 4897 (discovered by Eleanor Helin) Tomhamilton. His late astronomy professor, Jan Schilt, Schilt's professor Jacobus Kapteyn, and Mr. Hamilton’s former student, Fred Espenak, also have an asteroid named for each of one them. According to Brian Marsden, who headed the naming commission, he knew of no other chain of such length!

In addition to his extensive background in astronomy, Mr. Hamilton’s experience in a military academy and his love of history propelled this imaginative book. He grew up in New York City and currently lives in Grymes Hill, Staten Island.
