Former MP launches Glasgow’s own community buying website

A community buying website promoting local deals draws support from Mohammad Sarwar

Feb. 5, 2011 - PRLog -- An up and coming website which will exclusively promote local deals on a variety of goods and services available  in and around Glasgow is due to launch next week with the backing from former MP for the Glasgow Central constituency, Mohammad Sarwar who will Chair the firm.

Glasgow’s Great Deal (www.glasgowsgreatdeal.com)  will officially launch on February 7th 2011 providing savings of up to 90% on certain services specifically available in the local area.

Mohammad Sarwar, former MP for Glasgow Central chairs the up and coming local business venture and voiced his support recently by commenting:  “It will be refreshing to have a community buying website exclusively catered for our local consumers here in Glasgow. Undoubtedly, the daily and weekly discounts on offer will be greatly beneficial for local people who may be eager to financially save in uncertain economic times. Moreover, local business will benefit through increased exposure which will evidently increase customer acquisition and profits. Indeed, a local site for local people will be a great asset to the city as a whole and could go a large way to boost Glasgow’s economy. The concept is entirely new territory – consumers are guaranteed discounts on a variety of goods and services by simply registering their email on the website for no fee. As opposed to other well known global sites which require a minimum amount of people to register before a deal becomes active, Glasgow’s Great Deal offers discounts with no strings attached. ”

Sarwar also believes the new site will encourage people to buy local, he went on to add “Glasgow has a great reputation for being a friendly, warm, and welcoming city. Our pride in being Glaswegian means we have a strong sense of community and fierce loyalty to our home town. As Glasgow’s own community buying website ‘Glasgow’s Great Deal’ is focused on bringing great deals to consumers and businesses alike, encouraging people to buy local.”

The new ecommerce site is set to continue the popular trend of other social buying websites such as Groupon and Living Social which have gained huge global success in the past couple of years and changed the way in which consumers purchase online.

However, unlike these international websites which only offer a deal if a given amount of people sign up to it –
Glasgow’s Great Deal works differently making it stand out as a pioneering venture. Consumers are guaranteed a discount when they sign up for it and as an additional benefit, the deals gradually get cheaper as more people sign up to them. Customers can also refer as many people as they wish via social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter if they want to spread the word and increase the chance of the offer being discounted further.

Online customers who register can expect substantial discounts on restaurants, bars, jewellery, fashion and other activities in Glasgow through a combination of daily and weekly offers sent to them via their email.  For those who sign up to the website before March 1st 2011, a token of £5 credit will be added to their online account which they can then use to put towards any deal they decide to purchase.

Ron Morrison, Business Executive for glasgowsgreatdeal.com has great aspirations for the future of the firm, he said “Our main motivations are to provide a unique service for local consumers by promoting local business and taking care of vendors by always following through. We’re also determined to focus on developing and growing the business considerably within the year – we have ambitions to triple the amount of employees we have and eventually aim to become an internationally recognized leader in the field of community buying.”

The first deal on offer is set to attract a wide response from online customers looking to save money on lunches. Glasgow’s Great deal have collaborated with the worldwide sandwich chain ‘Subway’ and as a result consumers can enjoy a free 6” subway for up to 5 days across 84 stores in Glasgow and the West of Scotland if they register their email to the site by 7th February 2011.
