A dog had a lucky escape when a Polish boat rescued him from an ice flow that had carried him more than 100km up a river and out onto the icy waters of the Baltic Sea
Polish sailors found the animal on an ice-floe in the Baltic Sea, struggling to stay out of the freezing water. When the Baltica crew found him, he had already drifted some 24 km (18 miles) out to sea.
Senior Officer Jan Joachim said: "A shape was moving and we immediately decided to get closer to check if it was a dog or maybe a seal relaxing on the ice. As we got closer to the ice we saw that it was a dog struggling not to fall into the water." It's not known how he landed up on the ice. The rescue of the shivering, frightened dog has since gained worldwide attention.
Now one year after he was rescued from an ice flow off Poland's coast, Baltic the dog has begun to find his sea legs again.
The dog may be off the ice, but he is still out regularly on the Baltic Sea aboard the "Baltica," a research ship used by a sea fishing institute. Adam Buczynski, his rescuer and master, says the dog — the ship's pet or mascot — still shows signs of anxiety when the sea is rough but sails out with the crew when it is calm.”

With it being that time of year where it cold outside and it seems like we are all mentally ready for some warm weather and kind of forget about what’s happening outside. So we thought that this would be a good time to share and remind people that our animals may seem or look really warm under all that fur, but they too can and do get cold. I know when we take our dog out to the mountains and in the snow, she becomes cold at times and we have to keep her warm with her Dog Jacket. If you have your animals outside it is a really good idea to furnish them with a heated bed and warm blankets for comfort and warmth. Oh and apparently don't let your animals play by the sea where they can get swept away by an ice sheet like Baltic did.
Check out this video that we thought was pretty informational with tips on how to keep your pet warm.
