Feb. 4, 2011 - PRLog -- ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri–St. Louis and its Center for the Humanities offers four exciting Monday Noon Series events in February. These free, open to the public, cultural lectures and performances focus on art, dance, history, literature, politics and many other exciting subjects. The interdisciplinary events are every Monday from 12:15–1:15 p.m. and take place in the J.C. Penney Conference Center on UMSL’s campus unless otherwise noted.

The first event of the month, on February 7, is titled “The Novel in Double Vision: A Story Told in Two Voices.” Mary Troy, director of UMSL’s Creative Writing MFA Program, editor of Natural Bridge, and associate professor of English, reads from her first novel, “Beauties.” Set in South St. Louis at the turn of the millennium, the award-winning “Beauties” is told in alternating points of view by two cousins who operate a Meramec Street café.

The following Monday, February 14, features “A Peek at the Pyrenees World of Pierre Laclede: New Insights on his Life before Founding St. Louis.” Fred Fausz, UMSL history professor, provides never before published information on the French homeland that shaped the first 25 years of Laclede’s life.

On February 21, Maryanne Ellison Simmons, founder of Wildwood Press, presents “Wildwood Press/Fifteen Years: Challenging the Art of Print.” Simmons will speak about the exhibition at Gallery 210, which samples the work of Wildwood Press over the last 15 years, representing the collaboration between master printer Simmons and artists from around the world.

To round out the month on February 28, Ken Botnick, professor of art at Washington University, presents “The Book, Multimedia Tool.” Botnick points out that in a time when our culture believes the book to be an antiquated form, it is instead thriving.

The Monday Noon Series continues every Monday through April 25, 2011. All events are free, open to the public and no registration is required. Light refreshments will be served. The Missouri Arts Council, the Regional Arts Commission of Saint Louis and Gallery 210 have provided financial assistance for this season.
