New Opportunities for Talented Fiction and Nonfiction Writers

Feb. 4, 2011 - PRLog -- Susan Barrett, a writer with a long history of published work, has established  WRD to provide an opportunity for talented writers to reach the readers who will appreciate their work.  This is not self-publishing.  Only work of a good standard is accepted for uploading onto the site.

Launched in autumn 2010, WRD is attracting the writers of novels and short stories in a variety of genres.  The ebooks are available for download for 1 GBP for single short stories, 3 GBP for story collections and novels.  The writer earns 2/3rd royalties on each download.
This translates very favourably with the royalties on ebook versions of publishers' print editions.  

"Nowadays," says Susan, "it is so hard to get your work read, let alone accepted.  Sales departments rule publishing houses and they want work which is likely to achieve massive sales, not necessarily well-written books.  First time novelists are sometimes taken on in the way punters bet on outsiders.  The initial glow soon fades if the books don't leap off the shelves."

She's thankful that she began her writing career in easier times.  Her seven novels were published in hardback and paperback in the UK and USA.  She sold film right on her first novel and has written natural history and children's books with her husband, wildlife artist Peter Barrett.  When her last two novels hit the buffers, she realised she might not be the only novelist experiencing difficulties in reaching their readers.

She decided to take action on behalf of other writers in the same situation.  Her belief is that there are many readers who appreciate the kind of writing that sales departments disregard.  WritersReadersDirect aims to link these writers and readers.
