“Houston is an excellent city that has hosted countless premier sporting events and we are very excited to work with the Harris County – Houston Sports Authority to host this meet. Not only is this a wonderful location for our athletes to compete in, but this will be a great chance for Houstonians to come out and see our future Olympians in action,” said USA Weightlifting CEO Rick Adams (Colorado Springs, Colo.)
Houston has been a popular place for athletic events in the past few years. In 2008 the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Boxing were held here. Houston also hosted two NCAA Men's Basketball Regionals as with NCAA Division II as well as the National Championships for Seniors Gymnastics and Judo.
Janis Schmees (Houston, Texas), Executive Director for the Harris County – Houston Sports Authority commented, “We believe this prestigious event will not only give more opportunities for our local Houston residents to experience the sport of weightlifting up close and at an elite level, but will also give our city a chance to shine in the national spotlight amongst the best ranked junior athletes.”
