Feb. 3, 2011 - PRLog -- Stress: we all live with it. But when the welfare and education of young people is at stake,
the levels can rise precipitously. Every year an average of 10% of working teachers leave
the field for reasons other than retirement. The attrition rate is especially high among new
teachers.

According to England's Health and Safety Executive, teaching is the most stressful
occupation there is. About 80% of teachers complain about stress at work and thousands
of teachers leave the profession every year - predominantly due to stress.

Stress is categorized as a serious working hazard which has the power to slowly dissolve
the enthusiasm and optimism of the teacher, which unfortunately affects the whole
dynamic of the classroom.

More and more teachers are having to cope with pupil indiscipline, which is often leading
to both verbal and physical abuse against teachers. This alarming trend of bad behaviour
is growing and is seriously increasing the amount of stress placed upon a teacher.
Members of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) told of receiving death
threats from families, being groped by students and police having to be called as a parent
rampaged around a school.

One woman reported being trapped in an office by a father and older brother of a pupil who were angry that she had confiscated his gold trainers until the end of the day.

In a survey by the union – 64 staff said they had been physically harmed by a student,
and more than a fifth of the 1,000 questioned said they had developed mental health
problems.

The general consensus amongst many teachers within the profession is that the training
provided can be better and in some cases clearly is the difference between a long
successful career and a short unhappy and stressful experience.

The tremendous costs attached to finding and training new teachers to replace those that
have left is placing a serious strain on the budgets of schools across the country.

CPDT (Corporate Progressive Development Training) spent several years researching the
training services industry, and found that many of the training resources available to
individuals are either very unrealistic or are delivered in a inappropriate way that
disengages the participant within the training course.

Gary Payne, training director for CPDT said “So many important skills are being taught by
inexperienced tutors that have no realistic understanding of the material they are
delivering, it is no wonder that so many people receive poor training in the vital skills to
keep them safe”

CPDT provide a suite of training packages designed to provide the participant with the
relevant skill set to improve their performance at work and save their lives.
