YOGAFEST, YELLOW BRICK HOUSE FUNDRAISER,
HELPS 5000 WOMEN AND CHILDREN IN YORK

February 1, 2011, York Region – YogaFest, a Yoga fundraising event, will donate proceeds to Yellow Brick House, York Region’s emergency services and shelter for abused women and children. YogaFest will be held on Mother’s Day, Sunday May 8, 2011 from 8:00 am to 11:00 am in the Centre Court of Markville Mall. An expected turnout of 200 yoga enthusiasts and friends of Yellow Brick House will be attending the event.

Yellow Brick House has been operating in York Region since 1978. In 2009 the charity’s outreach and services helped more than 4000 women and children. The emergency shelter has been operating at capacity for several years now; in fact, in 2009 Yellow Brick had to turn away a staggering 547 victims of abuse due to a lack of shelter beds. In light of York Region’s growing population and the increased demand for their services, the not-for-profit organization has launched a capital campaign “Second Shelter, Second Chances,” to support building a second emergency shelter in York Region and prevent those in need from being turned away.

YogaFest will provide Yellow Brick House with funds towards their capital campaign while providing participants with an enjoyable morning of activity. The event will feature three Yoga classes, prizes and a silent auction. Participants will receive pledges towards their personal fundraising goals and support Yellow Brick House to build a new shelter.

In three hours we will help shape the future for 5000 women and children.
