Jan. 31, 2011 - PRLog -- This morning the Associated Press reported that a lawsuit has been filed in Cook County Circuit Court against a suburban Chicago vent cleaning company.  The suit against the business owner from Schaumburg alleges that homeowners were fraudulently charged for the cleanup of mold and mildew that did not exist.

According to the report the alleged scheme targeted elderly citizens using fake pictures of mold to trick consumers.  The Attorney General, Lisa Madigan, is said to be seeking to close the firm, impose fines and obtain refunds for the alleged victims.

According to the HVAC Inspection, Maintenance and Restoration Association (NADCA), “Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems have been shown to act as a collection source for a variety of contaminants that have the potential to affect health, such as mold, fungi, bacteria, and very small particles of dust. The removal of such contaminants from the HVAC system and home should be considered as one component in an overall plan to improve indoor air quality.”

“This recent report of alleged fraud in Illinois should remind consumers to be cautious and to look into the background of any companies they may consider hiring for improving their indoor air quality,” stated Ed Chambers, President of EC2, a renowned environmental consulting firm.  “Unfortunately we hear of cases like this from time to time and as a result have been offering independent duct inspection services and cleaning verification services for people and companies who have duct cleaning performed in their properties.  Improper duct cleaning jobs can cause poor indoor air quality, energy lose and reduced airflow so it’s important that it be done correctly,” he continued.
