One health practitioner has found an easier way to aggregate research and has now made it available to the masses, including health care professionals and others interested in public health.
PublicHealthResearch.ca publishes summaries of peer-reviewed articles from over 200 scientific health journals daily. Each professionally written summary is presented in an accessible format so as not to alienate any reader.
“After years of practice and spending countless hours doing research online and in quickly outdated publications, I felt compelled to create a resource for myself,” said Dr. Carol Cancelliere, an Ontario health care provider and the site’s founder.
“I’ve been told that the best business to start is the one you will personally benefit from. In the few months we’ve been online, I can honestly say the concise information we populate every day has helped me care for and educate my patients immensely.”
All major public health sectors have a presence on the site including chronic diseases, infectious diseases and immunization, nutrition, mental health, child health, occupational health and safety, injury and violence prevention, health policy, addictions and more.
“It’s more than just summarizing peer-reviewed articles,” said Dr. Cancelliere. “We want to increase public knowledge sooner rather than later. In theory, this timely information will help our fellow public health professionals identify problems and find solutions quickly.”
In addition to the article summaries, PublicHealthResearch.ca contains an up-to-date membership directory and an active forum to facilitate information exchange among members. The forum also serves as a networking opportunity. Professionals may be able to earn continuing education credits through the site as well.
Although developed and maintained by a doctor, the site administrators do not limit membership to physicians.
Researchers, students, policy makers, program planners, educators and others can join and take advantage of all the site has to offer.
