Fast Market Research recommends "Kazakhstan Infrastructure Report Q1 2011" from Business Monitor International, now available

Feb. 1, 2011 - PRLog -- Kazakhstan continues to steer a path of economic growth despite global downturn hampering aspirations of its regional peers. Stimulus spending has helped the construction sector boom aided by the country's healthy oil reserves and excellent location as a transcontinental hub. Oil contributes about 40% of GDP. BMI expects to see growth rise again this year for the construction sector with 5.5% year on year (y-o-y) growth in 2011. Construction industry value will stand at US$10.6bn for 2011. Growth will continue over the forecast period with an average 7.1% y-o-y until 2015 when the industry value is expected to be US$24.4bn

Key indicators included:

* In November 2010, Rominserv, the general contractor of The Rompetrol Group, part of KazMunaiGaz announced it had won a contract to develop a drinking water supply system in four Prahova county towns, the estimated value of all works being US$4mn. The project's scope is to implement a micro zonal system that will supply drinking water to four towns in Prahova county. It is expected to be completed by 2013.
* In November 2010, expectations were raised that an agreement was imminent between partners in the Caspian Pipeline Consortium to expand the capacity of pipeline. Shareholders have already agreed to the plans, which would require an investment of about US$5bn and should improve regional energy security. The pipeline transports oil from Kazakhstan to the Black Sea coast and the expansion work would take around five years.

The Kazakh government's drive to invest in national infrastructure and diversify the non-oil sector supports our favourable long-term outlook for the economy. Moreover, we believe the growing integration of Kazakhstan into global markets will help reduce the impact of external shocks and put the economy on a more sustainable growth path.

Despite notching up a stellar 9.3% average annual rate for economic growth over the course of 2000- 2008, the severity of 2009's recession, combined with a protracted period of deleveraging, will see growth settle on a lower path through to 2019. Indeed, we forecast annual growth to average 7.2% throughout the forecast period. Coming from a higher base, and investing heavily in developing the national infrastructure and non-oil sectors, Kazakhstan will further consolidate its position as the regional powerhouse in Central Asia over the long term. Moreover, for the less-developed economies in Central Asia, this will mean more employment opportunities, cross-border investments and demand for primary and processed exports for Kazakh industries.

Despite Kazakhstan's stellar 8.0% expansion in H110, we still expect economic growth to moderate over the coming quarters, given the slowing pace of oil price gains, the limited scope for credit expansion within the financial sector, and our expectations of a slowdown in global growth over the medium term. That said, the government's strategy to diversify the oil-dependent economy over the coming years bodes well for longer-term growth.
