McGregor Metalworking Adds a State of the Art Coordinate Measuring Machine

Jan. 29, 2011 - PRLog -- Springfield, OH –  The McGregor Metalworking Companies have recently installed a new Brown & Sharpe Global Advantage DCC CMM in their Morgal business to support the growth of higher tolerance large part production.  The Global Advantage machine has a measuring envelope of 59” x 87” x 39” and is the fastest unit in its class.  

“We are continually evolving our quality program and goals for process capability.  We had outgrown our existing CMM and metrology software and after careful analysis we moved forward with the Brown & Sharpe and PC DMIS software” said Mark Wigginton Corporate VP of Operations for McGregor Metalworking.  

With the unit now in operation, McGregor can measure to an accuracy of 2.5 microns which currently exceeds the capability required by its customers.  The CMM was installed with an active vibration dampening system for further assurance of accuracy.  “Our quality strategy is based on the assumption that process control requirements will increase in the future.  When you make a capital investment the size of a DCC CMM you have to base it on future needs, not necessarily current requirements” commented Cindy Porter, Corporate Director of Quality for McGregor.   “We are also focused on a unified quality standard across our 5 facilities and this addition is a significant component of that plan.”

McGregor Metal Working Companies serve a diverse market, but all require tooling, process and product validation beginning with new product launch all the way through the life of the product.  “By automating the inspection processes we can get to market quicker with our customers, but we are also get higher throughput in our inspection processes, so this leads to higher accuracy and higher productivity” says Mr. Wigginton.
