By: Scott Sch;mitt, GSE District Chair FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The 2010 - 2011 Group Study Exchange team will be going to South Korea April 18 - May 20, 2011. The Group Study Exchange is one of the programs funded by the Rotary Foundation. Its purpose is to promote understanding and goodwill throughout the world. Group Study Exchange team members travel in a group of four with a Rotarian Team Leader. During the month long visit to Korea, the Team will be exposed to culture, cuisine, history and business aspects of Rotary in Korea which is located in northern Korea north of Seoul. The Group Study Exchange Program is a wonderful opportunity for a Rotarian to guide four young business professionals on a one-month, life-changing journey to another country. Through the program, teams of young professionals from two different countries exchange visits. For four weeks, team members experience the way of life, customs, and vocational practices of another country, while sharing information about their homeland. The purpose of the Group Study Exchange program is to promote international understanding and goodwill through personal connection. While abroad, team members stay in Rotarians' homes and have the opportunity to meet their professional counterparts. They also give presentations to Rotary clubs and other groups about their home country. The Rotary Foundation pays for round-trip airfare, and Rotary club members in the host country provide meals, lodging, and group travel in their district. Team members pay for personal and incidental expenses. The GSE Team Members are between the ages of 25 and 40, and are employed full-time in a business or profession. Team members must live or be employed in Rotary District 5190 (which includes north-eastern California and northern Nevada). A team member cannot by directly related to a Rotarian, and must be a citizen of the United States with a current passport. Team members are provided orientations prior to their departure. There is also a requirement that presentations about their journey are given to their home communities upon their return to the U.S. Applications for GSE Team members are still being accepted, and the final deadline for applications will be January 31, 2011. This is an opportunity of a lifetime – a free, sponsored trip to another country for one month.
