Jan. 28, 2011 - PRLog -- What Is A Beat Battle?

A beat battle is a competition, similar in nature to a competitive sport, where music producers are pitted and matched against one another to determine who has the best beats. Although some established music producers have battled or played tracks in more of an exhibition style, beat battles are typically for up & coming and emerging music producers and beat makers looking to gain the respect of their peers and exposure in their community. Battles are also a great way to become recognized in the independent music scene and/or major music industry.

These events can be held in a variety of venues such as colleges, nightclubs, bars, hotels, arts and recreation centers or even online. Local beat battles are mostly organized by local promoters who have a love and appreciation for beat making. But, beware of fraudulent individuals and groups posing as "industry connected", as they do exist and are just trying to rip off producers.

The Pro's

These events are a great avenue to gain exposure, to hear what your competition is doing and to network with other producers, songwriters, artists and possibly industry executives such as managers, a&r reps, etc. If prizes or money is given to the winner that's always a great added incentive.

The Con's

There aren't many negative aspects to entering a beat battle. For example, even if you lose or get booed, that has an upside as it should fuel your desire to step up your production and come back with a vengeance. So the only con is that some producers enter beat battles and after winning they become too arrogant for their own good.
