Jan. 26, 2011 - PRLog -- Jonathon Gomez from Twin Falls, Idaho is coming off his most successful campaign in a five-year racing career that has taken him from a rural Idaho farming community to superspeedways in America’s heartland. Along the way, the 28-year old successful farmer and business entrepreneur has proven himself a winner and championship contender competing in NASCAR, ARCA, regional Late Model touring, and road course racing.

Fresh off a dominating season in the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour where he claimed the series championship on the strength of two wins and eight consecutive top five performances to close out the 2010 season, Gomez is primed for success in this weekend’s NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown at the marquee oval of Toyota Speedway in Irwindale, CA.

Gomez is entered in all three of the Showdown’s events which kicks-off this Friday evening with a 75-lap Whelen All American Super Late Model clash pitting the best Saturday night short trackers from across the region battling for bragging rights. Then on Saturday, Gomez will compete in a 50-lap Late Model event that precedes the eighth running of the 225-lap NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown, which attracts the top racers from across North America to what has become the pinnacle of short-track racing in the country.

Gomez got his start in racing a little later than most and he is making the most of his time behind the wheel. In addition to racing in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West – where he finished sixth in the championship standings last season in his first full season of competing in the series – Gomez won the SRL Southwest Tour title along with competing in a variety of other events all last season.

“We ran both the NASCAR K&N Pro Series and SRL full-time last year,” Gomez said. “A couple times they both ran the same night. We’ve already done it a few times and it doesn’t seem to slow us down.”

Gomez said running multiple divisions helps with seat time and does not give him time to think about anything else.
“It keeps me more focused,” he said. “I never have time to relax and not think about the track and the cars or something outside of what I need to be focusing on.”

Gomez got his start in racing at Magic Valley Speedway, a tricky third-mile paved oval outside his hometown of Twin Falls, Idaho. He cut his teeth in the Mini Stock division then moved up to Super Stocks and Late Models in consecutive years.

He then set his sights on regional touring and quickly established himself and honed his skills behind the wheel in the CarbonX Rocky Mountain Challenge Series; a series that inverts the top twenty qualifiers putting the fast guys at the rear of the field. Gomez started an average of 14th during his brief RMCS career.

Last season, Gomez set his sights on both the SRL and NKNPS series championships and while he claimed one title, it is the NASCAR K&N Pro Series championship that drives him forward.

“We were competitive in every race last season only to have a top five finish slip away in the last four laps in five races,” Gomez said. “We plan to turn that around. My crew chief Craig Raudman and the whole Heritage Motor Sports team are focused on winning and that begins this weekend.”

Gomez has competed in two previous Showdown events with a best result of 31st after a late race incident knocked him out of the top five last year. Gomez has started 20 NKNPS races since 2008 with three top five and 10 top ten finishes.
