Jan. 26, 2011 - PRLog -- Las Vegas – Thanks to advances in medical technology, those who wear contact lenses or glasses in Las Vegas can experience high definition vision.  That’s how patients of Dr. Adam Schwartz, an optometrist with Vision Source Las Vegas, describe the experience of wearing duette hybrid contact lenses from SynergEyes, the highest oxygen permeable hybrid lens on the market.  Dr. Schwartz is currently the only optometrist in Nevada to offer the lenses, which became available to a select group of optometrists in September 2010.  According to Schwartz, the hybrid lenses make a patient’s vision sharper and are more comfortable than other contact lenses.

Prior to hybrid contact lenses, patients could only choose between either wearing hard or gas permeable lenses that offered clear vision but with discomfort, or soft lenses, which, although more comfortable, provided less than optimal vision.  The new duette hybrid lens offers the best of both worlds: the center of the lens is a made of a rigid gas permeable material that provides high definition while its soft lens skirt simultaneously yields comfort

“Most of my patients that I have fit with the duette lenses were satisfied with their current contact lenses, but now they have that extra ‘wow’ factor.  It’s like watching a regular television for years and then switching to high definition plasma television,” states Schwartz, who recalls a patient who needed to improve his vision for his job as a local firefighter.  The patient had worn soft contact lenses for years, and while his vision was 20/20, which is average, he wanted to see with more clarity.  “I fit him with the duette hybrid lenses and he now sees better than he ever has before with glasses or contacts.  He has better than 20/15 vision, which is above average vision,” explains Schwartz.

The advances in technology don’t stop with contacts; there’s good news for those who wear frames, too.  The iZon lens from Opthonix throws the one-size-fits-all approach of the past out the window by  measuring the corneal distortions of a patient’s eye, creating an “iPrint” and then designing custom high definition lenses specifically for the patient.  This allows the iZon lenses to be more precise and match each patient’s unique cornea distortion, optimizing the patient’s vision and giving patients increased depth perception, decreased glare, and a larger field of view.

“Much like a fingerprint, each person’s eye is unique, including small aberrations, or distortions, that affect the way we see,” explains Dr. David Davis, of Vision Source in East Las Vegas.  “The iZon technology optimizes a patient’s vision by measuring these aberrations.  Most patients do not realize how poor their vision is until they try out a pair of the iZon lenses – once they experience their optimal vision, they are much happier.”

Unfortunately, the technology is still relatively inaccessible.  Dr. Davis adds, “I had a patient from Canada who was having difficulty seeing at night, especially with the snow.  After getting fitted with the iZon lenses, she was able to see much better and felt more comfortable driving at night.” The technology’s reputation for success has brought numerous patients from as far away as Canada and neighboring states like New Mexico to Davis’ Las Vegas practice.

Two of the five Las Vegas offices that carry iZon lenses are the Vision Source Summerlin/Lakes and East Las Vegas offices.
