Online Green Business Directory Furthers Its Own Green Goals

Jan. 26, 2011 - PRLog -- January 24, 2011 HOUSTON – Earth & Economy (http://earthandeconomy.com), founded in 2007, offers a unique approach to a green business directory.  Advertising-free and maintained by volunteers, this online resource promotes companies and organizations making a positive impact in the world community.  The site has taken steps to achieving its own goal of becoming carbon neutral by joining the Green Business Bureau (GBB) to become green business certified.

The group was looking for ways to quantify their environmental impact when they identified and listed GBB – the country’s leading third-party green business certification program – in its directory.

“Cause and reputation are important to us,” says Richard Rupp, Earth & Economy’s Owner.  “Our participation in the GBB program is a show of support and a way for us to help promote the GBB cause along the way.”

Rupp says that while there are plenty of green resources that offer tips, he appreciates the GBB’s simplified guidelines for being more "eco-conscious” and the certainty the program offers the team that they are making positive steps towards changing their behavior and their environmental impact.  Rupp’s group expects to complete as many initiatives as possible as it becomes green business certified, and Rupp plans to share his success with the rest of the Earth & Economy community.

“We evangelize green, but have been slow in making progress towards practicing sustainable principles and truly becoming carbon neutral ourselves,” says Rupp. “Joining the GBB demonstrates to the green community that we are committed to changing our own habits and living a greener lifestyle.”

“Prior to joining GBB, green was simply an awareness,” adds Rupp. “Now, we are looking at our membership as the turning point - the point at which we become more accountable for our impact and takes steps towards achieving a measurable balance; the point at which we begin to practice what we promote.”
