Follow on Google News | Austin Art Space Announces 52 Winners in 6th Annual 'For the Love of Art' Juried ExhibitAustin Art Space announced the selection of 52 works of art for its 6th annual For the Love of ART show running Feb. 11- Mar.5, 2011. The juror this year was Dr. Christopher Adejumo, of the University of Texas at Austin.
By: Kirk Walden The final 52 art pieces were chosen from over 200 entries from artists as near as Austin and San Marcos to Houston and Dallas to as far away as California, Washington state, Illinois and New York. In all, works by 38 different artists were selected for presentation. The pieces range in size from a dominating 30 by 40 inches to a diminutive 8 inches. The juror this year was Dr. Christopher Adejumo, Associate Professor of Visual Arts Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. He holds a PhD from Ohio State and his art has been shown in solo exhibits in Africa, Europe and the United States. His articles appear in newspapers, visual arts magazines and research journals. Valerie Walden, co-founder of Austin Art Space noted, “This exhibit just keeps on growing in popularity. It’s our largest ‘For the Love of ART’ show to date. The variety of media and the breadth of styles make it an especially engaging show. Love presents itself in infinite ways.” The non-profit Austin Visual Arts Association (AVAA) has taken over the day-to-day operation of Austin Art Space. Kelli Montgomery, Director of AVAA said, “We are committed to continuing the tradition of Art Space’s annual juried exhibits. The entire organization is excited about generating a higher profile for Austin artists and our growing number of AVAA members.” All patrons are invited to attend the Artists’ Reception on Saturday, February 12, 2011 from 6:00pm-9:00pm. Wine, cheese and Dripping Springs vodka will be served. Many of the artists are expected to be on hand to discuss their work along with Dr. Adejumo. Most of the pieces will be offered for sale. The exhibit continues during regular gallery hours, ending on Saturday, March 5.
