Puerto Vallarta To Host “japanese Today”

Puerto Vallarta, home to one of the most embracing and dynamic art scenes in Mexico, will host an exhibition of contemporary Japanese art from July 1st to 15th, 2011 at the Puerto Vallarta International Convention Center.

Jan. 26, 2011 - PRLog -- Puerto Vallarta, home to one of the most embracing and dynamic art scenes in Mexico, will host an exhibition of contemporary Japanese art from July 1st  to 15th, 2011 at the Puerto Vallarta International Convention Center. “Japanese Today” will feature over 300 works of art ranging from traditional Japanese calligraphy, Kimono embroidery, and ceramics to contemporary oil paintings and three-dimension art.

Co-sponsored by the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Board and the Japan International Artists Society, the exhibition will introduce works by more than 200 Japanese artists to the local art scene with the objective of showing the importance of traditional and contemporary art in Japanese culture and society. Members of the Japan International Artists Society have exhibited in museums in the United States, Cuba, Canada, France and Russia.

Art lovers from around the world have made Puerto Vallarta one of their favorite destinations because of its art scene, from the many sculptures that line its malecon, the destinations popular beachfront boardwalk, to the fine art galleries that house national and international works, visitors to Puerto Vallarta flock to explore the town’s numerous art offerings including paintings, ceramics, and sculptures to Huichol crafts, and unique handmade jewelry.

One of the most popular times to visit Puerto Vallarta is during its yearly Art Walk which is currently taking place through May 25, 2011 and features special exhibitions and showcases in15 galleries displaying the works of more than 300 international artists. Free guided tours of the galleries take place every Wednesday from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM with each gallery offering a reception often attended by the artist in exhibition.

All Art Walk activities take place in the old part of Puerto Vallarta which features colonial-era cobble stoned streets overlooking the Pacific blue waters of the Bay of Banderas and are open and free to all visitors.
