Jan. 26, 2011 - PRLog -- In 1991, Doris Holland wrote a book, Grace Thus Far that was about the struggles of her family with a child who had a brain tumor that left him physically and mentally challenged. God’s grace had seen her and her family through and enabled them to continue in the ministry and be able to enjoy their lives.
Life’s Tragedies God’s Grace, is the Grace Thus Far story and beyond. It shares the continuing growth of the Holland family through a diversity of physical, emotional and spiritual challenges. Their son, Paul died in April, 2004. The trauma of the loss of a child, though not unexpected due to Paul’s circumstances, is beyond comprehension to those who have never experienced this type of loss. The entire family still grieves over the loss of Paul. However, “God’s grace is sufficient,” and their faith continues to increase. This book exposes the raw emotions of loss and hurt that can be used as a faith builder, not a detriment to our faith.
If the story stopped here, it would be enough. Yet, God was still proving Himself even further in their family. As you read the book, you will see their battles continue with the illness of their son-in-law. They still deal with this disease which demands more grace and challenges their faith. The illness of their son-in-law led him into an addiction to prescription drugs — another demand for grace and another challenge of their faith. Still, this family serves God. The physical and emotional results of these battles are also presented in reference to anxiety and depression — again the need for more grace and a challenge of faith.

Doris Holland is a Pastor's wife, a registered nurse, a wife and mother and a grandmother. She was a Board Member for Mental Health/Developmental Disabilities/Substance Abuse for Lee County, North Carolina. Having multiple tragedies come into her life she wants to share that even pastor's families deal with personal tragedy. She wants to share with the reader how the strength they had to go through these tragedies came from the Lord. Many people's lives are touched by illness and or the death of a child. Through sharing her story she helps the reader to see how God worked in her life and the life of her entire family. Tragedy does not happen to one person - it happens to everyone that person is related to. This book is not only for those people, but also for the caregiver, for people who are suffering from an illness or just need encouragement when they need it most.
