Jan. 25, 2011 - PRLog -- The Bay View Academy Office of Alumnae Relations & The Bay View Alumnae Advisory Council proudly announce the February event in the Women in Leadership Series. The Academy invites the public to join our alumnae, parents and friends to join our special guest speaker and Bay View’s Outstanding Alumna of the Year, Col Susan Corry Luz ‘68 as we discuss “Living the Mercy Mission.” Trained as a nurse, Susan has always felt that she has been “called to serve” and has devoted her life to public service. She was the highest-ranking soldier in the 399th Combat Support Hospital, an Army Reserve unit based in Massachusetts and in 2007 she was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service while in Iraq. In addition, she has worked in inner-city schools, jails, adolescent psychiatric wards and was also a Peace Corps volunteer in Brazil. Susan holds a nursing degree from the University of Rhode Island and a master’s degree in public health from Boston University and is widely recognised as an energetic and motivating public speaker.

Col Luz is also chairing the Bay View Academy Committee “ She Served Too”, which this November 10th kicked of  a year long effort to identify, contact, serve and celebrate the efforts of all female veterans.  Said Lia Del Sesto, “We are so pleased to have Susan return to her Alma Mater to share her wonderful stories and wisdom, especially this year when the Academy is moving forward to educate our young women on the sacrifices of military service in our Democracy. There is no better person to lead this discussion on living a life of service and compassion and we look forward to a moving breakfast at 1149 east on the 16th.”

This event is open to all who are interested, space is limited, contact Lia Del Sesto at 434-0113 ext 104 to reserve a spot.
