Jan. 25, 2011 - PRLog -- Reading with TLC, a company that offers a multi-sensory program on phonics with proven success as a supplement to the core reading curriculum in Pre-Kindergarten through grade 2, and as an intervention program for students of all ages, will conduct a variety of seminars in 2011, including several free sessions, for school systems and organizations throughout the country and in Canada.

Reading with TLC co-directors Nancy Telian, a speech and language pathologist and Penny Castagnozzi, a former elementary school educator, have presently been scheduled to conduct various presentations in Massachusetts, Mississippi, Kentucky, Illinois, Florida, New Jersey, Connecticut, Texas, and Calgary, Alberta Canada.

A series of one and two-day seminars will be free and open to the public. Educators, administrators and support staff attending the free seminars will be trained in Reading with TLC’s proprietary programs Lively Letters and Sight Words You Can See. On a limited basis, Telian and Castagnozzi are also offering free full-day presentations to those school districts and organizations that qualify with large audiences. The hosts of the donated presentations may use these seminars as fundraisers, charging admission to raise funds for their organizations.

In addition to the free seminars, Reading with TLC will conduct a variety of workshops throughout the calendar year:

•   On-site seminars:  Telian and Castagnozzi, or one of their national trainers, are retained to present at a school or organization; Reading with TLC has brought its training program to an impressive list of school districts since its inception.
•   Off-site seminars:  These sessions are typically held at a conference center and require admission; however leadership, travel, and student scholarships are offered to offset the cost of the two-day seminars.
•   State and national conventions:  The Reading with TLC authors have been invited to speak at numerous state and national educational conventions throughout the year, speaking on various topics of literacy, as well as their own programs.

Participants attending Reading with TLC seminars will be instructed in language-based, structured techniques for phonemic awareness, phonics, and the acquisition of sight words.  Those attending the sessions have the opportunity to implement the Reading with TLC program by purchasing the Lively Letters and Sight Words You Can See kits for use in their classrooms.

Recognized as a building block of successful reading, the Reading with TLC program seeks to underscore findings by The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development indicating that prevention and early intervention with appropriate methods in grades K-3 decreases the number of special education referrals and that for 90 to 95% of poor readers, early intervention can increase skills to average levels.

“Reading is the key to all subjects and ours is a systematic approach to learning to read,” said Castagnozzi. “We are thrilled to be offering our 20 year celebration seminars to school systems throughout the country and in Canada; previous sessions have resulted in positive feedback and outcomes and we are confident those attending our seminars and speaking engagements throughout 2011 will similarly share great benefits.”
