MedTech Joins AdvaMed in Albany for Meetings with State Legislators

MedTech, the hub of Upstate New York’s Bio/Med industry, has partnered with AdvaMed to meet with state legislators today to facilitate understanding of the opportunities and challenges that face the Bio/Med industry.

Jan. 25, 2011 - PRLog -- ALBANY, N.Y. – MedTech will speak with New York state policymakers today in meetings convened by the Advanced Medical Technology Association to convey the positive employment, technology advancement and economic impact the bioscience and medical technology industry has on both the state and its individual districts.

MedTech, the hub of Upstate New York’s Bio/Med industry, has partnered with AdvaMed, a national trade association representing the medical technology sector. The two associations will be joined by MedTech members and other industry representatives from companies such as AMRI, Applied Medical Coatings, Greatbatch, Medtronic, Welch Allyn and Johnson & Johnson.

"As legislators are considering policies that will affect device manufacturers and patient access to technologies, it is important that legislators hear from device companies,” said Tom Tremble, AdvaMed’s associate vice president of state government relations. “This is especially true in New York, where this is a strong concentration of manufacturers, particularly Upstate."

AdvaMed and MedTech will meet with key healthcare and economic development leaders from the state Senate and Assembly, along with lead staff from Gov. Cuomo’s office.

“Upstate’s Bio/Med industry is a significant and growing contributor to our region’s economy,” said Heather Erickson, president of MedTech and co-chair of the national State Medical Technology Alliance. “It's important for our elected leaders to understand the opportunities and challenges facing these companies and to help ensure that New York remains a national leader for medical innovation."

Included in the day’s schedule are meetings with representatives from MedTech member districts: Sen. John Defrancisco, Sen. James Alesi, Sen. Neil Breslin, Assemblymember Bill Magnarelli, and Assemblymember Robin Schimminger.
