Jan. 26, 2011 - PRLog -- MEDFORD, Ore.--In recognition of Heart Month, Asante Community Health Education and Rogue Valley Medical Center (http://www.rvmc.org) will present the Heart and Sole Club, a 10-week series of free, informative, heart health events from February 3 through April 9. Each event will feature heart health experts and physicians from the RVMC Heart and Vascular Center (http://www.rvmc.org/heart), the heart care leaders in the region.

“Rogue Valley Medical Center is nationally-recognized for excellence in heart care,” said Sarah Walker, Asante Community Health Education. “And this heart health series is meant to help everyone in the Rogue Valley take care of their hearts.”

In that same spirit, the RVMC Heart and Vascular Center will sponsor the RVMC Heart and Sole 5-K Run during the Pear Blossom Festival on April 9.

“We want everyone to listen to their heart and be heart healthy,” said Walker.

The Heart and Sole series will feature one heart education event each week with well-known guest speakers. People attending the series will receive an educational binder with information and heart-health tools. They will also receive free, promotional items from the RVMC Heart and Vascular Center. Lunch or dinner will be provided to all registered participants at the “Lunch and Learn” and “Dinner and Discussion” presentations.

The Heart and Sole series begins Wednesday, February 3 with “Sudden Cardiac Arrest:  Not Necessarily Fatal,” at the Smullin Health Education Center on the RVMC Campus in Medford. Presenters will show what other communities have done to improve sudden cardiac arrest survival rates and how a similar program might be developed in Jackson County. There will be open discussion afterward.

Other topics of the series will include Basics of Training for a Walk/Run, and Herbal Remedies vs. Prescription Medication: What’s Best for Your Heart. The full schedule is below.

The Heart and Sole Club classes are free. Registration is required for each class and space is limited. Please call (888) 688-4920 or register online at http://www.asante.org/classes-events.
