Jan. 24, 2011 - PRLog -- NORCROSS, Georgia –  Carville Job Corps, along with partner school Ashworth High School, honored 27 high school graduates during its winter commencement this past weekend. The ceremony was held at the local Job Corps Center in Carville, LA, on Friday, January 21, 2011.

Joined by family, friends and school and Job Corps administration, graduates were recognized individually as they crossed the stage to receive their diplomas. The ceremony was officiated by Center Director Darlene Walls.

The Carville Job Corps affiliate and its national parent organization assist local youth, ages 16 through 24, to improve their quality of life through vocational and academic training. In combination with hands on career training, participating students completed core classes to fulfill their graduation requirements.

“We’re proud of the accomplishments of all our graduates,” said Ms. Walls. “The ceremony represents the culmination of hard work and commitment on the part of our students. In the end they’re able to take with them real-life career skills and the added benefit of having completed their high school education.”

Ashworth High School has partnered with Job Corps since January 2010 as a preferred provider of high school curricula for the program. Both Ashworth High School and its parent company Ashworth College are leaders in distance education, offering a wide range of flexible career-focused diploma and degree programs.

“Ashworth’s high school diploma programs have been developed to specifically address the needs of working adults and non-traditional high school students, making us a natural fit for the Carville Job Corps program,” said Dr. Leslie Gargiulo, Ashworth Vice President of Education.

“We’re excited to be working Carville and to be a part of this special event,” she added. “By helping these students earn a high school diploma, together we’re giving them significant career advantages, compared to not having a diploma or a GED.”
