Jan. 21, 2011 - PRLog -- A TWMPATH with top Welsh folk band Jac-y-Do is among the events forming part of St David's Week in Swansea as preparations to honour the Patron Saint of Wales gather pace.

The week of celebrations will last from Saturday February 26 to Sunday March 6 and will also include the chance for people to learn how to trace their Welsh roots at the Civic Centre.

St David's Week looks to celebrate all things Welsh and will include a selection of music, art and entertainment.

The Twmpath with Jac-y-Do is a Welsh-style barn dance that's being held in the Brangwyn Hall on Friday March 4 from 7pm.

Other events to have already been confirmed include a St David's Day celebration at the National Waterfront Museum, a Welshcake bake at Townhill Library and a World Book Day at the Dylan Thomas Centre.

An Evening of Song and Celebration is also being held in the Brangwyn Hall on March 1 from 7pm. Over 200 schoolchildren from the age of six will be taking part alongside Cor Waunarlwydd.

Frances Jenkins, Swansea Council's Strategic Manager for Tourism, Marketing and Events, said: "Swansea is the only city in Wales to create a week-long Festival for our Patron Saint and we have a diverse and exciting programme once again this year to celebrate what's great about being Welsh.

"The programme for the week is already packed with lots of different events - a number of which are free and with more being added as the build-up to the celebrations continue.

“This is the 3rd year that the Council has hosted this Festival and we would urge all businesses that are organising Welsh themed events during the week, to take advantage of the free marketing opportunities available to them”

Businesses or event organisers are asked to get in touch with Swansea Council to get their St David’s Week activities listed for free on the St David’s Week website.

People can provide details either online at www.saintdavidsday.com or by calling 01792 635458.
