“Words cannot express our gratitude to everyone involved in making the 2nd Chili Quest a success. We continue to host events like Chili Quest for the teams, sponsors, vendors and people of Galveston with hopes of continuing to build a camaraderie amongst the community.” Said Mike Dean, president of Yaga's Entertainment, Inc.
A brave panel of judges had the tough task of sampling 2 different types of chili, regular and exotic. With more than 80 entries, they had a lot on their plate! There were 42 teams this year, doubling the teams from 2010. Big Nasty Cookers, a new team to Yaga’s cook off’s, were crowned Champion of the Regular Chili competition. Placing first in the Exotic division was Tramonte Reality. A list of all the winners can be found at http://www.yagaspresents.com/
With the expansion of the Beer Fest came the Craft Beer Tasting. Located indoors, over 500 beer fans sampled and voted on over 80 award-winning craft beers. Among those were; newest to St. Arnold, Winter Stout, and Shiner Kosmo Reserve. A panel of judges, selected from the Michael Berry radio show, chose Abita Gator as their Favorite Beer. Kenyon Spears took home 2 VIP tickets to the 3rd Annual Yaga’s Craft Beer Tasting in 2012 and one case of craft beer.
By high noon, brave contestants lined up for our Jalapeno Eating contest! Alejandro Hambrick took it home by eating 14 jalapenos! The Margarita Contest ended the day’s events with a bang and resulted in Grill on Grill Action taking first place. Their recipe and Margarita will be featured on Tsunami Exotic Tequila Emporium's Margarita list for one year.
Proceeds from the festival benefitted the Ronald McDonald House. Sponsors of the event were El Jimador, Diesnt, Great Brewers.com, Spec’s, Mitchell Historic Properties, Galveston Island Convention & Visitor’s Bureau and McCormick Spices.
The 2012 Yaga’s Chili Quest & Beer Fest is set to kick off January 20-22, 2012.
