Talent Management: Rodarte Ineligible For Black Swan Oscar

Jan. 20, 2011 - PRLog -- Sisters Laura and Kate, founders of the clothing brand Rodarte, were initially introduced to Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky by Natalie Portman. They then went on to create 40 ballet costumes, as well as all of Natalie Portman's knitwear and dresses for the film.

The result is stunning, but it seems that unfortunately for the design duo, they’re not eligible for an Oscar nomination.

Because the Mulleavys didn't negotiate a credit in the deal and weren't members of the Costume Designers Guild the only person that can receive a nomination is the film’s Costume Designer, Amy Westcott.

The sisters, however, have since joined the Guild and have revealed to WWD that they’re open to more costume opportunities in film in the future.

“What’s interesting is that, as designers, our job is something so seasonal. You finish a show and you’re already thinking about your next one. In film, you make pieces of clothing that go down in history. It’s been very, very exciting for us,” Laura said.

“This was a magic combination of all the people involved, but we’re definitely open to doing it again.”
