The award is named after former chair Tim Gasson who was tragically killed in 2007. Tim was a leading figurehead and recognised for his verve, creativity and un-comprising stance in driving professionalism in the hotel booking sector. A founding member of the association, Tim held several positions on the executive committee before becoming Chairman in 2007. The executive committee decided to remember him by creating an award in his name – given annually in recognition of a member nominated by their peers for advancing the values of the HBAA and for commitment to progress.
Presenting the award, out-going chairman of the association Stephen Usher said: “Susanna has given absolute dedication to providing the association with well organised events, in particular Susie took a delayed honeymoon in 2008 after marrying James to look after the HBAA Annual Forum. Those that knew Tim will remember his extraordinary passion and drive and we are truly delighted to recognise Susanna for showing such qualities.”
The HBAA represents the interests of parties involved in the procurement and management of conference, meetings and accommodation in the UK and internationally. It has an annual buying power in excess of £2.3bn per annum and is recognised by corporates as the benchmark of quality and integrity.
