Jan. 19, 2011 - PRLog -- The program, funded by the CRA for $30,000 and managed by the Center for Technology, Enterprise and Development (TED Center) and its Florida Women’s Business Center in Delray Beach, offered nine free workshops each quarter in 2010, and were held at the Carolyn Sims Center, 225 N.W. 12th Avenue, Boynton Beach.  These informative classes, ranging from the “1-2-3’s of Starting a Business, a Business Plan Writing Series and Keeping the Books,” concentrated on how to become an innovative, dedicated entrepreneur and evolve into a disciplined manager of a growing business.  Over 130 individuals participated in the program which concluded in December 2010, resulting in the formation of 28 new businesses.

“The CRA serves as the economic catalyst for downtown Boynton Beach, and has invested over $500,000 into programs to benefit small businesses,” stated Vivian Brooks, CRA Interim Executive Director.  “We know there’s a pretty high failure rate for new businesses, a problem compounded by the current economy.  Our program, which gave preference to Boynton Beach residents and business owners, provided training for each graduate to create a clear business plan and effectively start or grow their company.”

To date, the CRA programs have leveraged over $3M in private funding.  Some of the agency’s other Economic Development Programs include:

1.Commercial Facade Improvement Grant – matching funds to improve the appearance of the business and the commercial corridors within the CRA.
2. Business Signage Improvement Grant – matching funds for new commercial signs.
3. Commercial Interior Build-out Assistance – funds to assist businesses with build-out expenses.
4. Commercial Rent Subsidy - assistance to new or expanding businesses for the first critical year of operation.
5. Interactive Google Map Video Program, “where the locals go!” - free marketing for local businesses.

The Boynton Beach CRA is committed to serving the community by guiding redevelopment activities and stimulating economic growth within its 1,650-acre district.  The organization focuses on creating a vibrant downtown core, providing affordable housing, and revitalizing neighborhoods.  For more information on the CRA, its programs and special events, call (561) 737-3256 or visit www.boyntonbeachcra.com.
