Podcast: Animal Rescue Societies Save Pet Lives

Prospective pet owners should first visit animal rescue societies because they do an excellent job of matching perfectly fine pets with the right owners. And in doing so, they save pet lives. Dr. Marla Lichtenberger explains how they work.

There should be no reason to do so, but animal shelters and humane societies do not have the room or funds to house all of the homeless pets. Enter animal rescue societies, says Dr. Marla Lichtenberger, of Milwaukee Emergency Center for Animals. Doctor Lichtenberger is a big advocate of these volunteer societies because they act as halfway houses for animals, saving them from being euthanized, until the right families can be found.
