By: Young America's Foundation President Reagan once said, “No place before or since has ever given Nancy and me the joy and serenity [Rancho del Cielo] does.” The 688-acre Reagan Ranch plays a unique and important role in Young America’s Foundation’s upcoming celebrations of the 100th anniversary of Ronald Reagan’s birth. Reagan biographer Lou Cannon said, “There is more of Ronald Reagan in that Ranch than in all the speeches he ever gave.” President Reagan spent 360 days at the Ranch during his Presidency. It was there that he signed the largest tax cut in American history on August 13, 1981and hosted world leaders, including Margaret Thatcher and Mikhail Gorbachev. But he also went there to refresh and restore his vision, to remind himself of what was important. Visitors find the heart and soul of Ronald Reagan at his beloved Ranch, preserved just as it was when the Reagans called it home—complete with the President’s books on the shelves in his adobe home, his riding gear in the tack barn, and the telephone-pole fences he built with his own hands. It’s a place that teaches profound lessons about his faith, patriotism, humility, and character. Today, Young America’s Foundation uses the Reagan Ranch to inspire and educate young people about Ronald Reagan and his lasting accomplishments. The Foundation also owns and operates the Reagan Ranch Center in downtown Santa Barbara, California, to further reach young audiences with President Reagan’s ideas.
