Well Driller Safety Training, Monitoring Well Design, and Basic Groundwater Hydrology Course

Environmental Consultants Inc. has been involved with the siting and design of water, wastewater, and stormwater management systems for over 20 years.  Mr. Brian Oram is a licensed well driller, soils scientist, and professional geologist.   In addition, the company has been active in training water and wastewater operators, well drillers, laboratory technicians, and assisting in the siting and evaluation of solid waste management systems.  This series of training programs provides access to training for individuals looking to enter this profession and supplementary training for the seasoned professional.  B. F. Environmental Consultants Inc is facilitating a number of training courses related to water well construction, drilling safety, basic hydrogeology, water treatment, and monitoring well construction.

NDA Groundwater Knowledge – Certification – 4 hours

The purpose of this manual is to increase the driller’s knowledge regarding the earth and the movement of water within the earth. Additionally, the handbook will provide up-to-date information regarding drilling methods and well installation. This information will enable the driller to better participate as a member of a team, together with scientists, engineers, and geologists, to solve some of society’s more difficult problems.
As the society in which we live produces more waste materials, some of which contaminate the nations''. potable water supply, new sources of water and methods to clean up the polluted water supplies must be found. These difficult problems are being encountered by drillers which require them to understand the nature of the problem in order to be able to suggest suitable solutions.

NDA Drilling Safety Guide – Certification (3 hours)

This online course reviews the National Drilling Association’s Drilling Safety Guide and after successful completion, results in the NDA’s Drilling Safety Certification.  The guide has been prepared through the combined efforts of member delegations of the Diamond Core Drill Manufacturers Association (DCDMA), the National Drilling Association (NDA) and the National Ground Water Association – Drill Rig/Heavy Equipment Product Group and Safety Subcommittee (NGWA) and is published by the National Drilling Association (NDA) for the benefit of the drilling industries.

This guide contains suggested safety procedures. It is not intended to set forth any standard industry procedures or requirements. This manual is to be used as a guideline for the safe operation of drilling equipment. DCDMA, NDA, NGWA, their officers, and members deny any liability for any injury to people or property that may occur even if these procedures are properly followed. Further, the DCDMA, NDA, NGWA, their officers, and members do not accept responsibility for the completeness of the guide or the applicability of the statements or procedures to the use of all drilling machines and tools in all environments. Many aspects of drilling safety cannot be expressed in detail and cannot be met by mechanical means; drilling safety can only be accomplished with the exercise of intelligence, care, and common sense.

Groundwater Hydrology (6 hours)

This 6-hour online course reviews the Army Corps of Engineers Engineering and Design - Groundwater Hydrology Manual. It provides guidance to engineers who are responsible for, or simply interested in, groundwater-related projects. This basic course covers such topics as subsurface distribution, groundwater forces, confined/unconfined aquifers, hydraulic conductivity, storage, transmissivity, general flow equations, flow nets, pumping wells, porosity, specific yield, groundwater studies, field investigation methods, computer modeling, and surface water/ground water interactions.
