Video game design, digital design, animation, digital music, and LEGO robotics are some of the project options at icamp, a summer day camp program for children in grades 2 to 8. It's a chance to apply sophisticated technologies in a kid-friendly setting with plenty of support to let campers’ ideas flourish. Children who may have never touched a computer keyboard before work side by side with “experienced techies” to shape their ideas, script and storyboard projects, then get down to designing their first objects, sprites, robots, movie sets, and music loops. Says Leonid Tunik, who runs the Boston-area programs: “The kids get so incredibly excited about their projects, and this excitement drives them through some serious challenges in logical thinking, writing, planning, and math. They learn that it takes commitment and persistence to create a quality project, which in the end is gratifying.” Parents like Jocelyn Goldberg are also raving about icamp. “My son came home each day and told me all about what he did,” she beamed. “I loved that he made the decisions about what to do and that there were so many choices ... It was the work of kids. That was the best part. It was one of the best programs we have ever signed up for.” This summer Children's Technology Workshop is bringing icamp to towns throughout Greater Boston, including Weston, Newton, Westborough, Needham, Concord, Lexington, and Belmont. # # # About Children's Technology Workshop Children’s Technology Workshop is a leader in creating and delivering high-quality, transportable engineering and applied technology curriculum for children through after-school programs, day camps, academic workshops, special events, and parties.
