Jan. 18, 2011 - PRLog -- Ocala, Fl., January 17, 2011:  The Ministry of Education (MoE) embraces the idea of the Andrew Dixon Foundation (ADF) Baseball Programme and endorses it as yet another step in diversifying the reach of the Physical Education (PE) curriculum in primary and secondary schools.  Moreover as an option at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) level it offers another area of specialisation to students who pursue the Physical Education Syllabus.

According to Mrs. Grace McLean, Chief Education Officer “there are those who access education through academia, other through the fine arts, and yet others through sports”.

Not only is it another way of joining the fit-for-life drive that should be the thrust of all Jamaicans, but it is also another way to connect with the world in the true spirit of sportsmanship that helps to break down socio-political barriers in the unification of diverse cultures.

Recent training activities conducted around the island by founder Andrew Dixon have driven home the fact that the programme is relevant, well-received and highly regarded by participants.  The ADF Baseball Programme provides yet another alternative for the pursuit of excellence among young sport enthusiasts who are in the process of realising their potential through classroom exposure and engagement.

Andrew Dixon a native of Jamaica and former resident of Poughkeepsie, NY attended Norfolk State University on a full baseball scholarship where he played four years; He was All-American in his freshman year, three-time MVP and the all-time stolen base leader at NSU.  He was drafted in 1986 by San Francisco Giants and played 6 years professionally.  He spent 1 year in Mexico and Venezuela where he led the league record for two years with 73 stolen bases in the Texas League.
