Jan. 18, 2011 - PRLog -- Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom –  Greenpeace Rainbow Warrior boats have made a name for themselves throughout the world. Their fame is due to the fact that their Rainbow Warrior I was bombed by French secret service divers in 1985 and the fact that the Greenpeace boats visit countries all over the world, welcoming on board all those who love the environment and support their cause.(http://www.boatwaxandaccessories.com)
Now, after two months of sea trials, which are scheduled to begin this April, Greenpeace will launch the Rainbow Warrior III in June of 2011. The launch will be followed by a world tour. This third Rainbow Warrior vessel will be the latest of the Rainbow Warrior ships as well as being a brand new Rainbow Warrior.
Proving that saving the environment is well supported by people all over the world, the brand new boat is costing the organization $41 million dollars. In charge of building the boat, Stefanos Malandrakis believes that a brand new boat, one that is built from scratch, will be more environmentally friendly than refitting an old boat, which is what Greenpeace did with the last Rainbow Warrior. What's more is that since it is a brand new boat, Malandrakis predicts that the organization can use the vessel for at least 30 years.
The Rainbow Warrior III, which is currently being finished in a German shipyard will have an efficient diesel engine, though Greenpeace predicts that the engine will only be used about 10 percent of the boat's time out at sea. The majority of the boat's power will come from its two large sails (large enough to cover four tennis courts), which should get the boat up to 15 knots; just as fast as conventional engines. Apart from the fact that it will mostly run on clean and sustainable energy, the boat will also have a secure communications room, giving those on board access to the Internet and allowing the organization to stream live footage. Also on board is a helicopter pad. Cushy digs for the 32 people who will be living in it.
With their new 838 ton vessel, Greenpeace hopes to travel throughout the world, going to their usual stops as well as new countries. This is all in an attempt to strengthen their campaign for clean living and protection of the environment. With this boat, the organization hopes to continue to fight against illegal loggers, illegal fishers, whalers, genetically modified foods, and nuclear testing.
The Rainbow Warrior II was a converted deep-sea fishing schooner, which will be retired after the launch of this third boat.
