Getting back to basics is what a lot of companies are doing these days. Chances are if it worked before it will probably work again with a little updating to be current with the times. ETTSI, while no stranger to trying new things, is right in step with this trend as well. As a part of their continuing marketing efforts, the ETTSI management reviews old programs several times throughout the year to see how they might be tweaked to work in the current marketing environment.
One of ETTSI’s earliest products was a travel flyer offering wholesale travel packages that they produced specifically for large employers and membership organizations. As printing and shipping costs increased and travel became depressed after 9-11, ETTSI discontinued the program and focused on other products that were generating more revenue.
ETTSI believes that the evolution of the internet has opened up many new marketing opportunities the most powerful of which is the ability of organizations to get information to their employees and members electronically at a very low cost. As these organizations develop their fans on Facebook and their opt-in email lists, their intranet infrastructure and social media contacts have become a prime vehicle to develop an income stream to support other aspects of managing their organization.
ETTSI thought that this might be the perfect vehicle to once again distribute its travel flyer in the form of an e-newsletter to market its wholesale travel packages. These discounted packages are not readily available to the retail market so they can be perceived as a benefit of joining a particular organization that offers them, hence the name “Travel Perks”. Since the cost of distribution has been eliminated, ETTSI can pay a commission to the organization distributing the newsletter on the travel services generated by their members so this becomes a benefit that pays them, instead of costing them, to offer it.
“In the past we always thought of a rep group, sales person or marketing partner as the best vehicle to market our products because these were the organizations that had the contacts.” states Frank Bertalli, President and CEO of ETTSI, “Today, social media outlets are quickly taking over the control of these contacts as the internet is now the first place businesses and consumers go to look for information on the products and services they are preparing to purchase.”
To qualify for the Travel Perks Newsletter Program organizations must have a membership or employees totaling at least 50 people and agree to distribute the newsletter every month through their internet or intranet marketing channels. Once accepted they are given a unique ID that their members use to book their travel arrangements from which the organization earns a 3% commission on the base price of the package.
