Jan. 17, 2011 - PRLog -- Choosing the right coloured tiles for any kitchen relies on many factors, your personal style will play a part and you may want to match to other existing colours in your kitchen such as units and cupboards. If you are starting from scratch and it is a completely new kitchen, you can pick any colour you desire but certain colours will give certain looks and atmospheres. Picking the correct tiles is really important and you should absolutely take your time before making a choice, not only will the tiles be there for some time to come but if you really don’t like the overall finish, it will be costly to replace.
White and crème will give a calm look to any kitchen and will match any existing colours that are already present. Bolder colours can be used but be sure nor to make too much of a statement because this can draw attention away from the rest of the kitchen. If you want to go for a design on your tiles, make sure it doesn’t clash with curtains, blinds and even the floor, there is nothing worse than having patterns that don’t match for making the kitchen seem busy and confused. Kitchen areas are one of the most used rooms in any home and you will want to be happy with the design and colours you choose.
Using different coloured tiles is now popular and you can make focal points of the backsplash area for example and then opt for a neutral design on the walls.  The size of your tiles also makes a difference to the look of the room. In general the smaller the area, the smaller the tiles. If your kitchen is larger then you may want to opt for larger tiles which are more suited to larger areas. Glass tiles should also be considered because of their ability to reflect the light so well. Glass tiles used in smaller areas will make the room look bigger and add elegance and style.
When preparing for any tiling job, it is always a good idea to write down the colours and styles you are more comfortable with and then go and have a look at the options that are available to you. Taking some tile samples home can also help you get the feel for the look you want and helps to match to other area in the kitchen area.
