Construction Proceeding Skyward on Denver Big Air Ramp in Civic Center Park

Construction on the ramp for Denver Big Air presented by Sprint is steaming ahead; 600,000 pounds of steel to be brought on site for assembly.
 
Jan. 14, 2011 - PRLog -- DENVER – Construction on the incredible 102-foot high ramp in Downtown Denver’s Civic Center Park that will be the centerpiece of Denver Big Air presented by Sprint began on Wednesday, Jan. 12 and is progressing quickly for the spectacular snow jump event that will bring national and international attention to the Mile High City on Jan. 25 and 26.

To accommodate the 600,000 pounds of steel that is being transported to Civic Center Park for the assembly and construction of Denver Big Air presented by Sprint, Bannock Street in front of the Denver City and County Building from Colfax Avenue to 14th Avenue will be closed beginning Monday, Jan. 17 through Friday, Jan. 21, except for a three-hour block from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM. On Saturday, Jan. 22, Bannock Street will be completely closed through Wednesday, Jan. 26. On Thursday, Jan. 27 and Friday, Jan. 28, Bannock Street will be closed except for a three-hour block from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM. A full closure of Bannock Street will resume on Saturday, Jan. 29 and Sunday, Jan. 30 for Denver Big Air tear down. Additionally, 14th Avenue from Cherokee Street to Broadway will be closed from 12:00 Noon to 12:00 AM on Monday, Jan. 24 through Wednesday, Jan. 26.

“Denver Big Air will be another great showcase for our City, and attract national and international media attention,” said Richard Scharf, president & CEO of VISIT DENVER, The Convention & Visitors Bureau. “From January 25 – 30, Denver will be the center of the universe for the ski and snowboarding industry, with Mile High Snowfest, 19,000 visitors attending the SIA Snow Show and many other winter events and festivities being staged throughout the Mile High City.”

With the closing of Bannock Street, the last day for the Denver City and County Building’s holiday display and light show will be Sunday, Jan. 16. The display is being dissembled and the final light and music show will take place on Sunday at 5:45 p.m.
