Follow on Google News | Dog Training Company to Open Animal Welfare Outreach CenterSan Diego’s Premier dog training and behavior modification company opens a new facility dedicated to raising money for local charities while offering low cost training solutions to dog owners.
By: Meagan Karnes Set to open in February 2011, The Collared Scholar’s Animal Rescue Outreach Center will be located in the city of Poway, CA. The Collared Scholar plans to partner with local San Diego non-profit rescue groups to bring low cost, informational dog training seminars, workshops and lessons to the citizens of San Diego, all while raising money for rescue. The Collared Scholar launched their seminar series in November 2010 with incredible results. The trainers partnered with Russell Rescue, Inc. a not for profit rescue group that helps homeless Jack Russell Terriers in need. The first seminar on Effective Communication techniques was held at the Poway Community Park and sold out. The group moved to a larger venue for their second seminar, tackling the topic of Fear and Anxiety in dogs, and once again, the seminar sold out. The two seminars together proved to be a huge success, raising over $1,000 for Russell Rescue, Inc. Given the success of the seminar series and The Collared Scholar’s passion to help pets in need, they decided to open a facility that would be dedicated to providing seminars and workshops to raise money for rescue groups. They have already partnered with several local rescue groups and plan to start offering training options and classes in early 2011. Meagan Karnes, founder and senior behaviorist at The Collared Scholar, has been training dogs professionally since 2002. She has a special place in her heart for dogs with severe behavior issues such as aggression and anxiety and she has helped some of the most aggressive dogs become model members of society. She has helped several rescue organizations with problem dogs and has successfully trained and helped find homes for over 200 hundred homeless dogs in San Diego. “This is just natural.” Ms. Karnes says about opening the facility. “We train dogs because we are passionate about them. They give us so much. Now it’s our turn to give back”. The Collared Scholar’s Animal Rescue Outreach Center will open February 2011. Rescue groups can get involved if they are 501(c)(3) non profit corporations. The class schedule for the first quarter of 2011 will be released on the company’s website and will feature informational seminars as well as hands-on training workshops for specific problem areas many dog owners face.
