Jan. 12, 2011 - PRLog -- College Nannies & Tutors of Cary invites college-bound students, especially 11th and 12th graders, to take a practice ACT or SAT test to gauge their current achievement level and readiness for college entrance exams.

Most colleges require every candidate to provide, along with an extensive application, results of either the ACT or SAT. Both exams are designed to provide college admissions officers with two things: an evaluation of readiness for academic success in college and a common yardstick to use in comparing students from a wide range of educational backgrounds.

SAT and ACT scores have a major influence on a high school student's future.  They are also the easiest piece of college admissions data to improve.  SAT scores are also the basis for many merit-based college grants, which are crucial for middle class families who want their children to be able to attend their first choice college.

Raising an SAT/ACT score by 100 or more points can be achieved in a number of weeks by a diligent student learning test taking strategies, studying weak areas, and doing practice questions.  Winter/Spring is the best time to get the test scores to qualify your for scholarships and early admission. Practicing under actual test conditions can help you learn where you need to focus your test prep studies to maximize your chance of a higher score.

The free practice tests will be given on Saturday, Jan. 22, as well as Feb. 12, March 19,  and April 9 at Hope Community Church, 821 Buck Jones Rd. The student may choose which test to take when registering.

The test environment will mimic the seating and timing of the tests. Students should arrive at 8:15 a.m., and testing will begin at 8:30 a.m. The ACT will conclude at 12:15 a.m. and the SAT at 12:45 a.m.

Results will be provided to parents the week following the test. Suggestions for study plans will also be provided to students interested in increasing their scores.

To register, call 919-896-7227 or send an e-mail to Ltarsa@collegetutors.com. Registration closes by 3 p.m. the Friday before each test.
