Jan. 12, 2011 - PRLog -- Together with a few items from the pantry, a typical BIG Value Package from SHARE Food Buying Club supplies the ingredients to make dishes for eight complete meals, each serving four people. At just $25, it works out to about $1 per serving.

In January, items in SHARE’s most recent BIG Value Package could be used to make an amazing list of dishes including Teriyaki Chicken Stir Fry, Beef Stroganoff, Tuna Casserole, Lettuce & Tomato Salad, BLTs, Roasted Pork Tenderloin, Baked Potatoes, Fruit Salad, Baked BBQ Chicken Drums, Oven Fries, Brats With Chili Beans, Citrus Cups, Roast Beef Sandwiches, Oatmeal and Apple Cinnamon Bread.

How can SHARE offer all of that food for just $25? The nonprofit organization’s volunteer-run distribution system makes savings of 30-50% compared to grocery store prices possible in over 200 communities throughout Wisconsin, northern Illinois, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and northeastern Minnesota. All together, over 1,000 SHARE volunteers bring savings on food to more than 8,000 families every month.

Unlike many nonprofit food programs, none of the food distributed through SHARE is donated or government commodity. SHARE purchases all of the food it distributes on the wholesale market, just like a supermarket. SHARE offers a monthly selection of quality frozen meats, fresh fruits and vegetables, canned and dry goods, convenience items, family-size packages and organic produce. Members can pick and choose the food they order every month.

Because SHARE is a private nonprofit organization that achieves savings on food through an extensive volunteer workforce, there are no eligibility requirements or income guidelines. Everyone is welcome to join, and there are no membership fees.

SHARE’s February BIG Value Package includes chicken thighs, meatballs, chicken breast fillets, cheese ravioli in meat sauce, black forest ham, rib-b-q’s, lean ground turkey, sloppy joe sauce, noodles & sauce, all-purpose baking mix, mandarin oranges, a deluxe produce assortment consisting of at least 7 different kinds of fresh fruits and vegetables, and a surprise bonus item. Families can order the package for $25, or they can pick and choose items a la carte. Plus there are additional items available beyond those in the package. Shipping and handling fees apply in some areas.

SHARE is now accepting orders for pick-up in February. Families can order online at www.sharewi.org through February 6 or they can call toll-free 800-548-2124 to order through February 4. Pick-up will be held on Saturday, February 19 at most SHARE sites.
