Jan. 12, 2011 - PRLog -- New research has revealed that majority of Britons would be prepared to travel for a further 7 minutes if it meant getting fuel at a cheaper price. The research also found that a quarter of respondents would travel up to 15 minutes further if it meant that they would save some money on fuel.
The research was conducted by the MyVoucherCodes.co.uk app, a service which allows users to receive information on the current discounts and vouchers available at shops and restaurants in their local vicinity. 1,027 people across the UK were polled, each of whom held a full UK driving licence, and were asked questions surrounding what lengths they would go to, to save money on purchases.
The study found that half of respondents, 52%, would drive for an extra 7 minutes if it meant that they could get cheaper petrol; whilst a quarter, 23%, said that they would drive for up to 15 minutes more if it meant that they would make a saving on fuel.
When asked “What are your thoughts on driving further to get cheaper petrol?” 11% admitted that they thought it was “pointless” stating that it would “cost more money in the long run.”  Furthermore, 4% admitted that they ‘couldn’t be bothered’ to travel further simply to save money.
Further to the respondents who would travel further for cheaper petrol, almost 1 in 5, 18%, also admitted that they would travel to a different city for clothing, the majority of which,(84%) said it would be for an item that was ‘out of stock’ in their local store.
If it meant saving money, 61% of the respondents would be prepared to travel further to purchase a new car and 19% would happily travel further for furniture if it meant purchasing it for a cheaper price.
Mark Pearson, chairman of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, commented on the findings;
“Due to the popularity of discounts and voucher codes, I wasn’t surprised to see the lengths some people go to in order to save money. Purchases such as petrol can be a complete necessity to some households, which results in fairly high outgoings. With that in mind, I think it is sensible to shop around and try to find the cheapest option.”
He continued;
“Sites such as MyVoucherCodes.co.uk are a great way to save money on purchases. Many of the discounts on the site are completely exclusive and can’t be found anywhere else, so I would strongly recommend visiting the site before making a purchase.”
