LEDucation 5 Speakers Announced & Registration is Officially Open

Jan. 11, 2011 - PRLog -- The Designers Lighting Forum of New York is proud to announce its impressive speaker line up and also notify attendees that event registration for “ LEDucation 5” is now officially open. Taking place on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 in New York City, LEDucation 5 is the premier lighting event dedicated to advancing the education of the lighting community.

The DLFNY is proud to announce the following speaker line-up to an unparalleled lineup of educational programming on LED Technology:

The Project Discussion: “Yas Marina Hotel – A Race to the Finish” will be conducted by Brian Stacy, Associate Principal and Richard Fisher, Theatre Consultant – ARUP Lighting.  They will explore the details and challenges faced with this award winning project encapsulating the process and related inspirations that drove this intense 19-month process and show how to overcome extreme circumstances and risk when positioned as a design opportunity.

Michael Myer, from the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, will present an “LED Standards Update”. This presentation will be an update on current standards for new emerging technologies and LEDs.

Barbara Horton, Principal of Horton Lees Brogden Lighting Design, will present “Diary of an LED Skeptic”.  During this presentation, Ms. Horton will deliver a brief overview of the behind the scene processes, rigors of judging and reasons why Next Generation Lighting Awards is an important program for specifier’s of LED products.  For designers, LED sources are an essential “paint” in our ever expanding lighting palette. Ms. Horton will discuss the purpose of the NGL program; participants, sponsors, judges; process of judging; criteria; benefits to the manufacturers and specifiers and provide an overview of significant 2010 winners.  

The seminar “The Color of White – Dig Deep into Color Consistency, CCT, CRI and Standards behind the Metrics” will be conducted by Ron Steen of Xicato. This presentation will explore the Color of White with LEDs.  LEDs are known to have a great deal of variation and have yielded the issue of "LED Color Binning."  There are many specifications and metrics defining the color and tolerance of "The White Space."  This seminar will address the reasons for Variation in the white space, define acceptable CCT variation, show practical examples of white color variation and challenge the audience to define levels of acceptability.

“What Does ‘Dimmable’ Mean in the LED World?” will be presented by Eric Lind, MIES, Director of Strategic Business Development at Lutron Electronics Co.. The presentation will provide insight into what customers can expect when they see the word "dimmable". It will provide details about LED drivers, LED array/light engine compatibility, and control options for both new construction and existing properties. Each of the control options will be reviewed, including a detailed expose on the technology/protocol and an examination of specific applications.

LEDucation 5 is expected to draw more than 1,000 lighting and design professionals and already has a sold out exhibitor floor with over 90 manufacturers tables.  The fifth annual event occurs on March 16th, 2011 in New York at the Hotel Pennsylvania.  Exhibit hours are from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with LED presentations beginning at 12:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Event Registration is officially open at www.leducation.org. Pre-registration is $20 for all attendees or$25 on site.  There is no charge for pre-registered DLF and IES members. Students are encouraged to attend as a complimentary guest with pre-registration and a student ID.
