Fort Lauderdale Mayor Seiler welcomes MMA fights in the City

Jan. 11, 2011 - PRLog -- Mixed martial arts and Fight Time Promotions have combined forces to bring pro fights to the War Memorial Auditorium in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

Fort Lauderdale Mayor Jack Seiler placed MMA in the forefront as he announced that five shows will take place in 2011 at the War Memorial Auditorium.

Scheduled dates are Feb. 18, April 1, June 17, Aug. 19 and Oct. 7 and television viewers will have the opportunity to watch on Sun Sports, which reaches nearly 7-million households.

"These fighters are tremendous athletes and they work hard,” said Mayor Seiler.  “This is a great venue to host MMA fights and from our standpoint, it's all about the economy and jobs. I think it's good for the city of Fort Lauderdale to bring tourists in and the people of Fort Lauderdale together. This is a sport that has come of age,” he added.

"I think we're going in a great direction," said Fight Time Promotions CEO Howard Davis Jr., who won a gold medal in boxing in the 1976 Olympics and founded the MMA company with his wife, Karla Guadamuz-Davis. "This is a great venue. A lot of the South Florida fighters don't have the kind of fights they need to get to that higher eschelon and I think we can provide that for them."

Davis is well-known in the MMA circuit as he has been the top Striking Coach for many fighters including: Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell, Mike Brown, Thiago “Pitbull” Alves and Jeff Monson.  

“I’m living my dream now as Promoter in Florida and it’s amazing to have the Mayor of Ft. Lauderdale in our corner,” said Davis.

The Fight Time 3- Feb. 18th fight card will be announced soon, but if the bouts are anything like Fight Time 1 and 2, fans can expect a great night of MMA action.
