Jan. 11, 2011 - PRLog -- NEW YORK, NY - January, 2011 – A year after the devastating earthquake in Haiti, a group of NY-Haitian leaders, who serve the local Haitian community, will come together for a six month leadership fellowship program. The fellows will receive professional development trainings while, at the same time, strengthen relationships between local Haitian and other agencies across the city.

The Fellowship will begin January 20 and will run through June 2011. Fellows will participate in monthly seminars which will cover a variety of issues, including resource development, working with the media, program evaluation, strategic thinking, and more. The professional development seminars will be lead by prominent leaders from UJA-Federation network agencies. The trainers will share their experience and expertise with the fellows and, at the same time, establish deeper ties with the fellows and their agencies.

Fellows will also participate in a grant-making committee where they will work together as grant makers. As the fellows take on the role of funders and give out small seed grants to local agencies, they will gain a unique view and better understand the grant making process and become better grant writers themselves.

The NY-Haitian Leadership Fellowship is generously funded by the UJA-Federation of New York. It is in partnership with the Brooklyn Community Foundation’s New York City Haitian American Hope and Healing Fund and CAUSE-NY, the intergroup relations division of the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York (JCRC- NY).
