Turf King Staff Attend Lawn Care Seminar

Jan. 10, 2011 - PRLog -- Hamilton, ON, Canada, .  Staff members from Turf King - Hamilton continue to upgrade technical knowledge and skills by attending the 2011 IPM Symposium. This is the 46th annual IPM Symposium. Landscape Ontario's Integrated Pest Management Symposium has been a uniquely respected event since 1965. Times have changed, and the program has been revamped to add more value and be more relevant than ever.

The Symposium is structured to provide information and updates of interest to lawn care, golf course and sports field professionals.

Some of the topics included “Biodiversity in Turf,” by Dr. David Shetlar, Professor of Urban Landscape Entomology, Ohio State University, “Biologicals and Botanicals: Responding to the Pesticide Ban with Natural Alternatives,” by Dr. Michael Brownbridge, Vineland Research and Innovation Centre and “Alternative Weed Control Products Fiesta and Finalsan: How They Work, Features, Benefits and Test Results,” by Cam Wilson, Neudorff North America.

There were also updates from the Ministry of the Environment’s Aaron Todd who reported on his “Urban Stream Water Pesticide Study” and Roberto Sacilotto, who spoke on the “Cosmetic Pesticide Ban – Compliance and Enforcement.”

Pam Charbonneau, from OMAFRA (Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs), provided an update on this past seasons trials with new herbicides products such as Fiesta.

The final presentation on “Organic Science as it Relates to Nutrition and Soil Conditioning,” was given by Dr. Roger Funk, The Davey Tree Expert
