Follow on Google News | Lansing, Michigan Doctor's Approach: Burgeoning blood test may detect cancerResearchers announced that a blood test that could detect a single cancer cell among a billion healthy cells could be available soon.
For Dr. Marcy Street, founder of Doctors Approach Dermatology in Lansing MI and the nation’s first African American female MOHS surgeon, the potential test is very exciting news. ‘Being able to allow patients to avoid traditional biopsies would be a wonderful thing. The only reticence I see with the potential test is that it is probably very difficult to catch a circulating tumor cell in the midst of the bloodstream in a person’s body, which is constantly moving.’ The test would eliminate the need for tissue biopsies, where doctors have to extract actual tissue. A simple blood test would be far less invasive. Dr. Marcy Street, Lansing, Michigan, board certified, Mayo clinic trained dermatologist has been in private practice for nearly 20 years.
